INTRO TO DRAWING: Welcome

This module is one of the core modules for FNBE students. It is to help us to familiarize the basic representation of the built and natural environment through drawings. It also introduces students to different techniques of drawing and encourages them to explore different methods of drawing. Students will understand and use drawings to communicate in the construction industry.

ASSIGNMENT 1A - OBSERVATIONAL DRAWINGS

In a group of 5, we need to produce observational drawings of a fruit.

Each group was given different fruits.

My group was given a capsicum.

We need to produce a total of 5 drawings, which are :

1 TOP VIEW

2 ELEVATIONS

2 SECTIONS

2 sets of drawings were required to produce by the end of the day. One is sketching by pencil and one is to outline by felt tip pen.

We were to draw each drawing on A4 paper, combine it and paste it on 2 A1 mounting boards with proper labeling.

REFLECTION : Doing this assignment during the tutorial class period was a bit rush, but it was good to finish it in class. We get to work with each other and learn. I learned to extract the details of an object and draw it in 2D. I also get to share experience and knowledge on drawing with my team

ASSIGNMENT 1B - BASIC ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWING

This assignment is also a group work. We need to choose one furniture around the campus and draw it.

We need to produce :

1 TOP VIEW

3 SIDE VIEWS AT DIFFERENT ANGLES

1 IMAGINARY SECTION

The drawings need to use appropriate scale.

The furniture we chose was a high chair in the admission office. We used scale 1:5 for this drawing.

Once finish drawing, we labeled the dimension and title, paste it on an A2 board.

REFLECTION : Through this assignment, I understand the steps to produce orthographic drawings and how to convert it to scale.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT - ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS OF A TINY HOUSE PROJECT

A basic layout was given for us to propose a single storey house project.

The tiny house should consist of basic spaces such as living room, dining room, bedroom, and bathroom.

Balcony or patio can be added without changing the layout of the house.

We need to plan the arrangement of spaces and furniture. We were asked to refer to the IKEA catalogue for the dimensions of furniture. Scale for the drawings is 1:50 while the scale for detail drawing varies, depends on the furniture.

We should produce these drawings on 2 A2 papers in the end :

1 FLOOR PLAN

1 FRONT ELEVATION

3 SECTIONAL ELEVATIONS

1 DETAIL DRAWING

I proposed one for each space and a balcony for my tiny house project. For my detail drawing, I chose to draw a dressing table.

REFLECTION : Through this assignment, I realize that I still need to improve more on my workmanship.

But it's a great experience doing this project. It was something new for me to experience. I learned a lot from lecturers and my coursemates too through this module.

Understand line weight techniques, dimensions, annotations and drawing symbols. Practice things that was taught throughout lecture class of the semester.

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

Overall, I think this module is great. I have a better understanding of how professional orthographic drawings should look like now.

In my opinion, this is a much easier module of this semester I would say.

Honestly, there are some of the drawings that I did not do well. I'm sure that I will improve with more practice.
