ASSIGNMENT 1B

Miniature Shelter in Nature

Each group is given an animal Lego character and to study the needs and essentials of the character in terms of its nature and adaptation. Then, we need to establish a miniature shelter for the assigned character at the selected site using a set of blocks. The natural setting of site must include 1 or 2 of the earth components below :

a) Atmosphere (on air)

b) Hydrosphere (on water or underwater)

c) Geosphere (on land)

d) Biosphere (specific to flora setting ex tree)

The main site should be approximately 2500mm x 2500mm size while the shelter site be approx. 500-1000mm x 500-1000mm

We are also required to do a site study including site survey, site inventory and site analysis upon the selected site.

The condition of the site before & after doing anything to the site must be recorded.

Lastly, we are to present all findings verbally through presentation boards to explain about the condition of environment through the site study, the miniature shelter process and how it related to the character, the damage to the site.

My group was given a character called Red from the Angry Bird movie. I did some research before going to the site. Once we reach our chosen site, we started to measure the shelter site and record the surrounding. We also took a lot of pictures at the site.

We found out that Red gets angry easily and we decided to pick a treehole which is near to the water as its shelter. This way, the water can calm him down when he gets mad.

ASSIGNMENT 2A

My 'X' Hometown

This assignment requires us to make a info graphic fold-out pamphlet about our hometown. First, we need to study the background and history of the township, the significance elements, accessibility and map of the township. Next, we have to choose a area in the township to elaborate the built components in detail through tangible and intangible components. Then, identify the favourite part of the area and discuss the tangible and intangible elements. Lastly, we need to describe and visualise what we would like to improve in the town and justify why.

REFLECTION:

I get to know what I didn't knew about my hometown through research. I also realize that there is room for improvement for my hometown.

ASSIGNMENT 2B

Site Study and Street Intervention

As a group, we are to construct ideas on street intervention based on the conducted site study. From the site, we need to select a street (100-200m distance). The street chosen must have a unique characteristic and with a potential of improvement. The street chosen should have nearby access to train station. We have to capture the intangible and tangible built elements in the site through photograph, interview or video recording. We need to create a 2D pop-up model to show our street intervention.

My group was assigned to Bukit Bintang and our chosen street is Jalan Alor. Jalan Alor is a famous food street in KL. We actually went to the site twice as it rained the first time we went.

Our pop up model was made using some sticks as the support for the roof, papers we cut for the roof and some coloured cellophane sheets to make the translucent glass on the roof.

REFLECTION :

Through this project, I learned different painting and colouring skills from my teammates. I also get to know about history and background of Bukit Bintang through a lot of research. Besides, my drawing has improved through this assignment.
